Why are UMNO politicians prone to corruption?
Bcos local and foreign businessmen know that UMNO politicians have the belief that without money, UMNO cannot be the dominant power behind Barisan Nasional and if it is beholden to MCA and MIC for money to fund the election machinery, the non-Malays will make demands for more rights.
Business people, on their part, dont care abt politics. They just want to get government projects, licenses, and concessions, and they want a private sector-friendly govt so that their businesses can grow, and they can become richer. So they see it as a business investment to support the key politicians so that when these politicians get into power, esp if they are UMNO, the local and foreign businessmen can have easier access to them in the ministries.
The US and EU have now made it illegal for their companies operating abroad to be involved in offering donations to foreign political parties.
If their foreign associates are caught doing that in foreign countries, the head office chairman and board directors at home will be held responsible for the political corruption in SEA, S America, or wherever.
Malaysia has now legislation to control donations to political parties. (Can't remember: has the law been passed? ) we should enforce this law as soon as possible. Will the next govt after GE15 agree to put a check on political donations?
Lets us not forget that political donations are an excuse for corruption.
The US and EU knew this, that's why they have a law against their companies making such donations in foreign countries bcos there is no transparency and accountability like in their countries.
The US also has an anti-money laundering law bcos their business corporations complained abt political corruption money overseas is being laundered in America to buy apartments and stocks and shares, out bidding Americans by driving up the prices. The American consumers say it is not fair to them that foreign corruption money was coming into their country to spoil asset prices.
IMDB money was the first to be caught under the 2011 US anti-money laundering law.
