No...the plane was not sabotaged.
Tun had to be in Langkawi the next day to file his nomination papers to stand as Pakatan Harapan candidate for Langkawi in PRU14. Syed Mokhtar's Private Jet was to fly him there that evening.
But let us go back in time a bit, just before Tun Mahathir found himself on a runaway, in a private jet, being told by the pilot that they could not fly him to Langkawi because the plane tires were damaged.
Barisan Nasional, under Najib Razak's leadership, was expected to win GE14 despite the onslaught by Tun on Najib for being corrupt, on Rosmah Mansor, for being a spendthrift and self-styled FLOM, and on the massive 1MDB scam that had costs Malaysia billions.
Syed Mokhtar was banking hard on a Najib/BN win so that he could get his hands on some more land, and, as insurance for his ongoing applications for new land still under consideration. Najib had also given Yayasan Amal Islam Bukhary tax exemption, though Guan Eng later canceled it when Pakatan Harapan took government from BN. Guan Eng later claimed that it was LHDN, not him, who canceled the exemption given to the Yayasan by Najib....but that is a story for another day.
RM100 million was gifted to FLOM by Syed Mokhtar - not too considerable a sum of money for Syed Mokhtar when you consider that he had donated RM195 million to Muhyiddin's PN.
Syed Mokhtar was doing what he could to engineer a win for Najib and Najib's deputy at that time, Muhyiddin.
Anyway, Tun Mahathir had the use of Syed Mokhtar's Private Jet to fly him to Langkawi a day before nomination day. On the runway, the pilot announced that the plane's tires have been damaged and repairs could not be done immediately.
Tun managed to arrange for another private plane to fly him to Langkawi that same evening and he arrived in time to submit his nomination papers to stand as PH candidate in Langkawi.
Now the cepu mas question!
Did Syed Mokhtar's Private Jet really suffered tire damage and could not fly Tun Mahathir to Langkawi to file his nomination paper...or... did it not? If Tun did not file his nomination papers on time, he would not have been able to stand as a candidate in Langkawi and that would have changed the results of PRU 14 drastically. Tun would not have been our Eight PM....and maybe PH might not have won GE14.
Or did that plane really have its tires damaged so badly that immediate repairs, as claimed by the pilot, were not possible?
Those are the facts. You decide what really happened. Was it a plot by Syed Mokhtar to delay Tun's arrival in Langkawi so that Tun could not submit his nomination papers in time and be disqualified from standing as PH candidate in Langkawi?
Or did Syed Mokhtar's Private Jet really have problems with its tires?
The mind boggles, not too far-fetched though!!!
