Some years back, I wrote “Prostitution as a source of Income for PDRM" https://steadyaku-steadyaku-husseinhamid.blogspot.com/2010/05/prostitution-source-of-income-for-pdrm.html
Today, PDRM, Immigration, enforcement authorities, politicians and other individuals are hitting upon migrants, legal and illegal, to ‘cari makan’.
The migrants, who make up 30% of our workforce, are part of a burgeoning underground shadow economy in Malaysia. How much money is generated in this economy is difficult to quantify, but these figures gives one, an idea of its size :
Documented migrants : 2 million.
Undocumented migrants : 3.5 million.
The migrants are from Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam and are made up of refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless, and migrant workers.
In Malaysia the parties that profits legally and illegally from this shadow economy range from Bestinet Sdn Bhd (a company owned by a brother-in-law of an ex Deputy Prime that listed the ex-Home Minister, Tan Sri Azmi Khalid as a director), to government enforcement officials, human trafficking syndicates, employers, employment agents, illegal sub-agents to the mata mata on the streets and everyone else in between.
High recruitment and administration fees are imposed before and after these migrants arrive in Malaysia that can result in debt bondage. Migrant workers are then exploited in labor trafficking on oil palm and agricultural plantations, at construction sites, in the electronics, garment, and rubber-product industries, in homes as domestic workers and through involuntary overtime, wage fraud, forced begging and even involvement in commercial sex. They are coerced by assaults, threats of deportation, passport retention, and exploited by enforcement agencies who demand bribes to allow these migrants to live and work in Malaysia - whether legally or illegally.
Corrupt immigration officials accept bribes at border crossings and airports. Government officials are also directly involved in extortion and exploitation of migrants. The government arrest and investigate migrants who are illegally in Malaysia, but they do not prosecute or convict officials who were allegedly complicit in trafficking-related crimes, and they are not held criminally accountable when they violate the law. Invariably, law enforcement officials that comes directly into contact with legal and illegal migrants are the worse offenders.
There is a lack of protection by the police. PDRM is the lead enforcement agency, and each of these five million legal and illegal migrants are looked upon as a source of income for many in PDRM. That is why legal and Illegal migrants enjoy the ‘protection’ of PDRM and the other Enforcement Authorities, to stay, work and breed legally and illegally in Malaysia.
If you speak to the migrants, they will tell you that the head of police districts have been taking RM50 from each foreign worker living in Malaysia on a monthly basis! When I asked this of my PDRM source, he retorted. "Of course the immigrants will tell the truth. Their allegations need to be investigated." He, too, knows how these helpless migrants were treated, and bullied. The policemen know where to look because they know where companies have built hostels for their migrant workers to stay., The local policemen will wait for the payday of the immigrants, ambush them and rob some of them of all their gaji. All this the local policemen will do while waiting for the mabok drivers..because of very heavy fine plus jail....more money from drunk drivers!! PDRM officers cari makan left and right!
These are some reason why we have an illegal migrant population of three millions in a massive shadow economy upon which corrupt Malaysian feeds. From the time these migrants leave their country for Malaysian, upon their arrival, and subsequent time living and working in Malaysia, they are a constant source of income for many....from the brother-in-law of the ex Deputy Prime Minister, to an ex Home Minister, to government enforcement officials, human trafficking syndicates, employers, employment agents, illegal sub-agents to the mata mata on the streets and to everyone else in between. Malaysian has truly become a paradise for greedy kleptocratic corrupt Malaysians who think nothing of exploiting migrants who are just seeking ways to earn a decent living to feed their own families back home.
What is the next big thing that these 'enterprising kleptocratic" Malaysians will think of? Maybe they will make a 'business' of giving out exit visa to anyone wanting to leave Malaysia for greener pasture abroad! Considering the rate at which these kleptocrats are bringing Malaysia to its knees with their greed, that can be a very lucrative 'business'....but of course that would have to swastakan the Ministry of Home Affairs kan? Maybe a buy out by the Minister himself can be arranged? Ptui!
Enough said
What is wrong with authorities in Malaysia. Many claim that Malaysia is an Islamic country and yet things we do are so not Islamic. So sad.
