Lest we forget...Ten Days in August!

Updated: Sep 10, 2022

Lest we forget, this is what I wrote back on 8th July, just over a month ago......

I have been writing about all things Malaysian for over twelve years. Anything from the x-rated private lives of our Muslim Kings and Sultans, to the comings and goings of Government jets that ferry cash from Malaysia to parts unknown around the globe at the bequest of our political leaders. Sometimes I falter in what I do because the Malaysia that I grew up in is changing at such a devastating pace in such a destructive manner. At times, I am emboldened by the positive changes that came with Reformasi, Bersih, and the victory at PRU14, but there is no sense of balance between the good and the bad. No sense of justice and fair play in the things that happen around us. Always, politics, religion, money, and entitlement dominate all things Malaysians. Dominates it in a way that troubles many of us because we now live in an era and a world that insists that race, religion, and politics should not define an individual nor confine that individual to a life dictated by these constrain. All these issues are now being debated, argued, and discussed by Malaysians against the backdrop of a government that seeks to impose its political will upon us all for its own vested interests. So how do we get back our sanity? How do we know that the law of the land works? How do we get ourselves out of the 24/7 political conundrum that threatens our way of life, our values, and our sanity? The coming 10 days in August will be a good place to start. The circus spectacle of an ex-prime minister, corrupt to the core and totally without remorse or embarrassment in spite of having been convicted of the heinous crimes of criminal breach of trust, money laundering, and abuse of power and sentenced to 12 years in jail, is still unfolding before our very eyes. These coming ten days will decide the immediate fate of Najib Razak, the Umno court cluster, and Umno itself. How so? If, after these ten days in August Najib conviction is upheld, he goes straight to jail. His physical absence outside Sungai Buloh will bring back a sense of normalcy in our lives. A convicted felon is where he belongs - in jail. That will send a chilling message to Zahid Hamidi and the UMNO court clusters....If Najib Razak is in jail, when will they join him? When will Rosmah join him? And this ridiculous charade of having a convicted felon leading Umno to God knows where, ends. The next stop is the Umno's party election before December, where we hope common sense prevails. An Umno without Najib and Zahid will surely get better? Would it not? So much hinges upon what will happen in those ten days in August. I believe the judiciary will do what is right. Anything else will consign PRU15 to be an exercise in futility.

Note : And now we wait to see how the Courts will decide on the fate of Zahid Hamidi and Rosmah. My guess? Done deal...incarceration! Tiada maaf bagi these two!
