Here is the thing when you are a blogger...people tell you what they think about what you write. The good: "so well verbalized". The indifferent"Malas lah nak komen". And sometimes they start with an "in my opinion" and you can be assured that it really is their opinion, not yours.
And, sometimes, they tell me like it really is. "We will continue to support cos there isn't any other choice. But so far big let down."...and in the telling of that, the frustration, disappointment, and the sense of helplessness are palpable! How long will that support continue? How much time is left before they take matters into their own hands?
How many of these "We will continue to support cos there isn't any other choice. But so far big let down" ....are out there? If truth be told, I think their numbers are significant enough for this Unity Government to worry. They are the silent majority...and the operative word there is "majority".
It hit Mahathir in Langkawi like a ton of bricks when he lost the election and his deposit. Samy Velu felt the wrath of the silent majority when he lost in Sungai Siput. It caught Najib on the hop when he was ousted from Seri Perdana, out of PMO, and out as President of UMNO, and did not get a "Get Out of Jail" pass. UMNO was again on the receiving end at the last general election when the silent majority booted them out of ...everything!
If there are any politicians out there who think that nothing can touch them ...go ask Najib if that is at all possible!
The silent majority today are thinkers, who can rationalize, and have within themselves, the ability to make right what they think is wrong. These are people who can be quiet, but not accepting of the lot that they are in. They have families, peers, friends, and acquaintances who they will want to come on to their side. And some will make it their life work to find the change that they are looking for.
I have met many....and with me, they will talk. They want me to write about what is in their heads. The worries, the fears, the disappointment, and the sense of helplessness watching leaders that they have elected to do government, struggling with issues of morality, ethics, and good governance. Almost a year in government and there are still questions being asked whether PMX is, or is not, interfering with the Judiciary. Almost a year in government and we are told that billions in investments have been promised by foreign investors while the price of rice, the lack of eggs, and chicken are the everyday woe of too many Malaysians. And, still, the issue of religion and race continues to be a problem, and education for our young has not gone beyond the 40 hadith conundrum.
Tell me, guys, are these not also on your minds?
Maybe, just for the month of October, PMX should stay home and look into these issues that affect so many of those people who voted him into government, and see if there is anything he can do about it. Surely, if PMX can persuade UAE to invest RM40.6 billion in Malaysia, he can find a solution to the beras, telor and ayam problems we are now experiencing.
And while you are at it Datuk Seri, can you please resolve the issue at Kg Sungai rather than order another extension?
Enough said.
