Jessica Watson (OAM) navigated some of the world's most remote oceans and survived seven knockdowns and 210 days alone at sea to become the youngest person to sail solo, nonstop around the world, aged 16.
Australian around-the-world sailor Jessica Watson has opened up on the shock death of her long-term partner Cameron Dale. Dale died of a catastrophic stroke in 2021 at the age of 29, following a 10-year relationship with Watson. Both sailors, they met and fell in love not long after Watson attempted to sail around the world by herself in 2009 at 16 years of age.
The long-term partner of Jessica Watson - the Australian who became the youngest solo sailor to circumnavigate the globe - has died in hospital weeks after suffering a “catastrophic” stroke. Cameron Dale, 29, died at Gold Coast University Hospital on Monday, Watson confirmed via Instagram.
“On Monday, 30 August 2021 we lost our Cam – my long-term partner in every aspect of life and planned future,” she wrote. “Cam passed away peacefully nearly six weeks after a catastrophic stroke. “We’ll be forever grateful for the dedicated care he received at the Gold Coast University Hospital.”
Today, Watson still needs all her famous grit and determination to cope with the tragic death.
