Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Kita Boleh!

Updated: Sep 21, 2023

There should have been many lessons learned in these past few decades of our nation's history. We should have been a great nation. We are not. We should have had great leaders. We had not. Either history has not been a good teacher or our leaders have not been good students - for the state of our nation today leaves much to be desired.

Mahathir inherited from Tun Hussein a government whose legislative, executive, and judiciary had credibility and the respect of the rakyat. Tun Haniff was IGP. Tun Suffian was head of the Judiciary and was respected as a judicial figure and defender of the judiciary's independence. As for Tun Hussein's stand on corruption, he decided to press charges of corruption against Harun Idris who was sentenced to six years' imprisonment on charges of corruption and forgery. That was the Malaysia that Mahathir inherited from Hussein Onn.

What was Mahathir's legacy after 22 years as prime minister? After 61 years in power, the rot that Mahathir left in UMNO, in the Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary, resulted in UMNO losing government in 2018 to Pakatan Harapan - a political entity led by Mahathir himself. What do you call someone who turns against the very political party that he has led for 22 years? Mahathir Mohammad of course!

After two years as a Pakatan Harapan prime minister, Mahathir was ousted as prime minister and Pakatan Harapan lost government in 2020.

In 2023, now under Pejuang, Mahathir lost his deposit when he stood for election in Langkawi.

Surely at 96, even Mahathir himself understands that he has failed politically, and has failed spectacularly and miserably.

Najib Razak who succeeded Abdullah Badawi as prime minister, is now in Jail and the other prime minister that followed, Muhyiddin and Ismail Sabri, can be dismissed in one sentence. They were unlikely, unworthy, and complicit leaders of a nation already drowning in mismanagement, abuse, and corruption.

Malaysia's fascination with all things political has not abated. How so? Here am I, at 5.09 a.m. on a Thursday morning, in Melbourne, trying to explain why your fascination with all things political, must stop because there are other things in our lives that matter. I, for one, am making plans to go back to KL and follow through on the things that I started when I was last there a month back.

What are you going to do when you wake up this morning? Go to work? Attend to personal matters that are pressing and urgent. If your car is having problems, you will have to send it to the mechanic to be looked at. Are you prepared for that meeting you will have after lunch today with your client? There are bills to be paid, groceries to be bought and life has to be lived to the best of your ability. Those are the things that should matter in your life - not politics.

Let us move forward. Today we have PMX : Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In the past many decades, we have not had a time like this ever! Think about this: Where is our PMX today?

He is not off to the North with a convoy of 50 cars. Nor is he being outfitted with his latest sartorial extravaganza or promoting his ikan singgang, cow’s tongue masak merah. Nor is our PMX busy with another 56 projects under another Jana Wibawa program valued at RM6.3 billion!

DSAI is in New York!

He works hard, this PMX of ours!

When DSAI appointed Nurul Izzah as his senior adviser on economics and finance, we said "NO". He heeded our druthers. When Zahid Hamidi got his DNAA, we also made our druthers known to PMX - but he did not heed our druthers - why? With Nurul. it was his decision to make. With Zahid Hamidi, that decision is in the hands of the AG - and PMZ understood the separation of power between the legislature and the judiciary. It is a done deal...let us move on.

All the other things that are making headlines in the mainstream media and online, the things that are being talked about in and around coffee shops, in the office, and at home - these are things that we are passionate about - and these are things that matter in our lives and to our nation future. What we can agree to is simply this: we are talking about these things because we want this unity government to do better! And we know they can do better - so we are asking why are they not doing better!

We are having a 'conversation' with PMX and his ministers - and they listen. Now think back to the time of Mahathir, Najib, Abdullah Badawi, Muhyiddin, and Ismail Sabri....did any of them listen to what we had to say? And if they did hear what we say, more often than not, they would use the ISA to shut us up. Kan? Our PMX will think twice about another Ops Lallang. Kan?

So let us move forward. PMX and his government have our interests at heart. You need to give them time to undo many decades of mismanagement, abuse, and corruption. Do step back from getting too intense and vocal about all things politics. Good governance is a work in progress and this PMX tries hard to make it a reality. He does not always succeed but he tries hard - and you cannot ask for more than that from our PMX kan? All the abuse, mismanagement, and corruption now being talked about, and going through our courts are from another era - before DSAI became PMX. Leave the Judiciary and the relevant authorities to deal with them and they are being dealt with - maybe not with the haste we want - but corrupt politicians are running scared. They know that their time in the dock is not a matter of "IF" but "WHEN". We know that in Malaysia, for every great fortune, there is a great crime. Leave it to due process.

What is at stake here? LIFE! My life, your life, the life of our children, and most importantly, the lives of our young - the future generations of Malaysians to come. This Unity Government

led by DSAI must triumph over the evil that Perikatan Nasional will burden us with if they take Putrajaya. Let Mahathir do what they want him to do with SG4. It will not be a big loss to us. Let us put our lot with PMX and this Unity government. Enough said.

It just baffles me why a 96 year old man still want to mess around with destructive politics when he will not live long enough to see it through. 🤷
