PERSPECTIVE : Overkill, a draconian disproportionate and unusually dastardly sentence....

ANON

Shocked, stunned and disturbed, devastated that we have such laws where a single unlawful CBT act can metamorphose into monstrous money laundering offences. Money laundering laws are clearly intended to attack terrorism, treason to a large extent, earnings and transactions relating to illegal drug production and trafficking, proceeds from human trafficking including child trafficking, illegal trafficking in human body parts, trade in prohibited products and abuse and wanton disregard for human life and well-being.

That this law has been applied in Syed Saddiq’s case suggests overkill, a draconian disproportionate and unusually dastardly sentence of seven years, a RM 10 million fine and two strokes of the rotan.

Then we had the acquittal of Tengku Adnan, the famous 2 million pocket money man, the DNAA for Zahid Hamidi and the Musa Aman, Bung Mokhtar cases. Let us not forget the charges and convictions recorded against our Brother Anwar some ten and twenty years ago.

These events may be legal, sanctioned by the government. allowed by the law, were carried out by due process in courts of law but are they logical, reasonable, do they enhance our faith in our legal procedures, are they what they seem to be or is there something sinister in all these cases. Is the sentence proportionate to the alleged crime.

Clearly AMLA was enacted to counter the criminal use of funds obtained from the proceeds or for purposes of terrorism activities, sales of weapons, arms, explosives used for such violent disruptive actions including rebellion, syndicated gangster activities, illegal gambling, insider trading, massive leakages, thefts and embezzlement of funds from the public or private sector.

Will we use hammers to kill flies and mosquitoes? Hammers have always been there but they are best used on nails.

Power to excuse, forgive and punish is immense power. You don't need to prove it when it is abused. Suspicion of abuse is worse than abuse itself. It stinks...

Its sickening when we have the likes of Bung, Musa Aman, Zahid and others in similar group being acquitted or given DNAA and here we have a nobody to Anwar and his unity government being meted a harsh/draconian justice.

It was done to Anwar when he was a nobody to the government then…. N yet its happening again.

Its not what you know but who you know…. that’s justice in Malaysia.

There seems to be nothing right about this government, even though its primary goal is to combat corruption. Harsh criticism has been directed at the sluggish pace of education and economic reforms, with most ministers facing scrutiny.

Interestingly, the justice system is attempting to overhaul and impose sentences that could deter politicians and their associates from engaging in corruption – such as diverting political funds into personal accounts. Despite its potential as a reform to foster honest politicians, it is facing significant criticism.

Replying to

We can erase all hopes of reform once anwar gets PAS onboard ( both hadi and anwar have qatari bondship) . It will be race and religion first again as what anwar tried to do when he was in Dr M's gomen.that is his main purpose in life.

DAP better forge a alliance with GPS as they are the only ones with reform agenda. Anwar knows this that is why he want that PAS support.
