PERSPECTIVE : Msg from my uncle šŸ‘‡

Before Anwar became PM he was telling us that if he comes to power he would introduce reforms with promises, that would change the life of the rakyat for the better.

Once he came to power Anwar forgot all his promises and now the rakyat are fed up with him. He even said he wanted Tamil to be taught as additional language in public schools. His Tamil audience gave him the applause but not now it is all forgotten.

In May, the court ruled the non-Muslims were free to use the word Allah but Anwar cleverly declared the non-Muslims in Sabah and Sā€™wak could use the word Allah in their publications but not in Peninsular Malaysia. Despite the fact the court did not say anything to that tune.

Now more nonsense keeps on coming out from Anwarā€™s mouth. During one speech he claimed that the European lawmakers even threatened him for his support of the Palestine cause. The claim was so ridiculous. The PAS people could not help but laugh at him. When pressured to substantiate his accusations he failed and later lied that he received a note from the American Embassy.

Oh dear, how could Anwar become such a daydreamer? During one gathering he said, ā€œHari ini kita jadi Kerajaan, esok harga minyak akan turunā€. He received cheers and applause from the crowd. This is one way for ā€˜Tin Kosongā€™ to impress people. In the end Mahathir is correct, ā€œHe just wants to be loved by the people.ā€

When I think of the many squandered opportunities, this one, on ā€˜Muslim nation leadershipā€™, comes to mind. When I was working in the Middle East for a few years, many of the locals had expressed ā€˜great admirationā€™ for Malaysia as a counter to the hard-core version abounding around them. They singled out Iran as a bad example of Muslim leadership. What they admired about Mā€™sia was their observance that we had a multi-racial country where everyone was able to get along. I suppose, back in the mid-80s, there were less towel-heads and such-like ostentatious dress codes that we see around us now.

Mahatir, in his position, was perfectly placed to push for that idealistic version of a Muslim governanceā€¦
