There was Dato Onn, Tunku, Tun Razak and Tun Hussein Onn. All men of substance. Upstanding men of character for whom morals and ethics meant a great deal more than their very self. They all put the nation before themselves. They all, without exception, served and did their duty to King and Country. We, our nation, and Umno were all in a good place. A safe place. Together, we began our journey towards a future that promised much. Racial harmony. Religious tolerance. A nation rich in culture united in diversity with an abundance of economic potential and opportunities that augers well for everyone that calls Malaysia home.
Politics was then still a noble profession. The Yang Berhormat were respected stalwarts of society. Ministers more so, and the Perdana Menteri were beyond reproach and men of exemplary character. If Dato Onn, Tunku, Tun Razak or Tun Hussein Onn said it, then it must be so. And if Umno announced its intention to do this or that, then it must be for the good of our nation and for the good of our people. There was no reason to think otherwise then.
And all was well and good until Tun Mahathir became Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister. He came from another world where power, responsibility, and duty were not to one's country and people, but to oneself. For twenty-two years, the cult of Mahathir reigned selfishly over our nation serving Mahathir first. To Mahathir, Umno, the nation and his wishes, were one. Everything else was an afterthought. What we are today - our nation, our people, and even our future, good or bad, reflected that truth. Mahathir has to take responsibility for what Umno is today. For what our nation is today. And for what we are today. And what we are today is a nation of broken dreams where hate and religious bigotry and racial intolerance reign supreme simply because that is how Mahathir wanted our nation to be. And to our great misfortune, Mahathir was able to do all that and more.
The "more" that he did was to plunge our nation back into the ways of the Umno that he had created when we foolishly believed his promise that he will not do so after PRU14 when we elected him to be our leader again.
That is all now history. We are now in the Madani era, under a unity government and Anwar Ibrahim is prime minister. He passed his first motion of confidence in Parliament in December 2022. Today, 14th August 2023, after state elections in six states, Anwar's position as prime minister retains its status quo. Anwar now must get on with the business of doing government inclusive of everyone in this multiethnic and multireligious nation that he is now the leader of.
Yes, there is still an Umno. A broken and battered Umno trounced by Perikatan Nasional at the recent PRN, but still relevant to a Madani government. There is Perikatan Nasional that has gained political capital by winning some seats through the despicable use of race and religion - but Perikatan Nasional is not the government of the day. There is Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Hadi all claiming relevance to be leaders of some kind, but Anwarr Ibrahim is the incumbent. So really, let PMX and his Madani government get on with the business of government in Putrajaya without any more delay.
Anwar, take no prisoners in the PRN battle that you have just won. Do not spare the losers if they have done wrong in their attempts to make political capital through the despicable use of race and religion. If they are not with us, then they are against us. Anwar do what you must to bring corrupt politicians to justice. Anwar you are in charge and if you do not succeed in what you say you will do in government, you will have to take responsibility. The people have spoken, The electorates have voted. Do not fail us, for we have not failed you....and please brother Anwar...TAKE NO PRISONERS... jail any corrupt politicians, jail any corrupt Malaysians....and always remember...at all times, humility...we will not expect anything less from you!
Let's not give to credence to Razak as a good leader as he is the original father of racism
Mamak fertilised the racism that was started by Razak\
Tunku and Dato Oon are truly great leaders
The first year has been one of consolidation and we have crossed the first hurdle with great insight and encouragement from our Agong for a unity government and confirmed by the recent election results . PMX you have 4 years ahead to make good your promises and redeem this nation. Allow the independent prosecutors to do their work unhindered even though it may mean some of your very partners might suffer humiliation through no fault of yours. Commit to reformation of all sectors of our government. Do not be afraid of making bold decisions for the country as a whole. Failure to do so in this one single window of opportunity could invite disastrous consequences too heinous to contemplate. …
Life would have been different HAD Onn Jaafar were PM1 then meritocracy/multicultural/multi lingua/multi religion.....true Constitutional Monarchy....
