Selamat Pagi Malaysia. Please can someone tell me that this KKD Minister did not say that! And if he did, it was because he was high on weeds. Seriously folks, can someone deny or confirm that "Kementerian Komunikasi dan Digital (KKD) akan menetapkan syarat untuk melesenkan pengoperasian media sosial di negara ini.
Social media is digital technology that allows the sharing of ideas and information, including text and visuals, through virtual networks and communities.
Social media typically features user-generated content that lends itself to engagement via likes, shares, comments, and discussion.
More than 4.7 billion people around the world use social media.
Social media is credited with helping people build community and faulted for facilitating disinformation and hate speech.
Social media is also an increasingly important part of many companies' marketing campaigns.
The largest social media platforms worldwide are Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, and WeChat.

Regulating content of social media? What an innovation. Just imagine this.
Government now takes over the Almighty role of God. Government will stipulate what one shares with one's family, friends, acquaintances and better still- tell the government your grievances in Bahasa Baku- and the grievances may be heard.
We must be the one and the most unique country in the world other than North Korea to think and plan strategies along these lines.
But we are a constitutional monarchy and a multicultural democratic nation where people will be communicating in languages other than Bahasa Baku. Do we tell them, persuade and then threaten them that they cannot communicate in Achehinese, Bengali, Gujarati, Filipino, Javanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tamil, Thai and the rich linguistic traditions of Sabah and Sarawak.
Our reason is that the Media Communications Ministry has not got allocations to hire translators for all these languages. And English is not encouraged because it is not in the SOP of the the government's operation manual.
We sometimes tend to forget that we live in an interconnected and interdependent world. We should not be ridiculing ourselves and shooting ourselves in the foot. The Almighty blessed us with a beautiful and bountiful country to live our lives enjoyably to the fullest with mutual goodwill and trust. God bless Malaysia.

A misinformed Minister of KKD! Reformasi seems a distant word now for the PKR folks. PKR came to power on socmed initiatives when mainstream media was on the opposite side. Now that, KKD controls the mainstream media, socmed must be controlled. Ha! Ha! Power does do things to the mind. The DUMBNO DNA still runs deep. Unfortunately.
Before we move smoothly towards a progressive nation, we stifle ourselves. If it ain't broken, don't fix it. Don't see anything good that can come out of this 'just trying to do something new' idea.
Apparently many countries are debating on this very subject and some form of legislation is on the card.Platforms self regulations are not fool proof for many esp on sensitive political matters. Will see!!!
