I am a Muslim who studied in a convent school.
My late grandmother, an educationist, whom I was living with, sent me to a convent school when we moved to PJ from Alor Star in the 1960's. The school was not far from our house, and I walked to the school with my friends from the same neighborhood. When the pupils offered their daily prayers at the school assembly, I stood silently in respect of my Christian friends. But I could remember those daily prayers until today.
Being in a convent school did not make me less of a Muslim but made me aware of the diversity of our nation.
We Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and whatever faith we profess, study, play, and eat together without any animosity towards each other. In fact, today, we alumni meet regularly for lunch to stay in touch, reminisced about school days and our teachers, and exchanged news of our family and friends through WhatsApp.'
Our friendship has stayed the test of time as we move forward and cherished our friendship in our twilight years.
