Corruption is a non-issue for the Malays?

The election narrative is getting more convoluted and twisted by the day. I was forwarded an article from Opinion/MySinchew, Sin Chew daily which asked :

Will corruption issues win the 30% Malays to Harapan?

And it goes on to give an answer: My simple and direct answer to this question is …no. The fact is, clearly to me, corruption is a non-issue with the Malay electorate when it is faced off against the BN and PAS narrative of Malay-Muslim unity and total political dominance.

Really!

Since it is a Chinese Daily, I presume that the writer is a Chinese, and this Chinese is telling me, a Malay, that corruption is a non-issue with the Malay electorate.

My first reaction on reading the article is anger! How dare you say that to the Malay electorate, corruption is a non-issue? And you go on to say that it is a non-issue because, according to you, when faced with the BN and PAS narrative of the need for Malay-Muslim unity and total political dominance, the Malays are prepared to ignore corruption and vote for Umno and PAS.

What do expect to gain from this narrative? Whether you are referring to the Malay electorate or to the Malays at large, you are painting the Malays as a corrupt people. That is not right. PH won in PRU14 because PH also obtained votes from the Malay electorate who are fed up with the corruption in Umno and fed up with the religious narrative from PAS that serves only PAS, not the Malay at large.

If, in PRU15 the Malays do not give their votes to Pakatan Harapan, there are other reasons to consider.

For me personally, I am still waiting for Pakatan Harapan to show some leadership not only towards the Malays, but towards all Malaysians. I have spoken to enough Malays to know that where they will cast their votes, will depend on what is best for Malaysia and Malaysians - not because they believe in the false narrative from Umno and PAS about Malay-Muslim unity and total Malay political dominance.

There are enough decent and responsible Malays out there who have already rejected Umno and PAS and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so in PRU15.

As to where they will cast their votes, if not with Pakatan Harapan, remains to be seen. I am certain that the results of PRU15, despite all the negative comments seemingly pointing to a BN, win are false. We wait and see.

When a political party weaponise corruption to win votes, they must use the right political master to deliver the finishing. PH need Tun M.

Anwar simply lacks finishing. The reality on the ground is the non malays are the only bribe giver.Have you heard of a malay giving money unethically to influence another malay's behavior? To win this election,PH will be measured by new powerful ideas. They must also form coalition with the right partner. To start with, 30% is wrong maths!
