I was ten years old on 31st August 1957 when Malaya was granted Merdeka. Sixteen years old when Malaya became Malaysia in 1963. Forty-three years old when Tunku died, and with him died whatever vestiges that are still left for decency in politics. Seventy-one years old when Umno first lost political power to Pakatan Harapan. And now at 75, I have finally seen the real beginning of the nation that I and many Malaysians had wanted when we were granted Merdeka in 1957...a nation that we can all be proud to call our own.
And now that it has all happened, why are there Malaysians that have had the same dream and the same hopes of having that nation as I do, now living abroad? Many millions of us have left. And many more will choose to leave if they can. What can DSAI...our PMX...do to bring us back? What can our PMX do to stop the exodus of Malaysians leaving Malaysia? And is it true that even with DSAI as PMX, there will not be a rush by Malaysians now living abroad, to return home to our Tanah Airku?
Well may you talk about Malaysian living abroad, coming home again...but what about the Malays who have long endured being trampled, used, abused, and then cast aside by their own leaders?
For those of you who think that the Malays lack the indomitable spirit that is needed for them to survive past what has already been their burden for as long as I can remember - that of being a race trampled, used, abused, and then cast aside by their very own kind - by the likes of Najib, Muhyiddin or Hadi - men who are no more leaders of the Malays as some rogue MCA and MIC leaders are leaders of their own community...then I ask that you think again!
We Malays are able to forgive and give others the benefit of the doubt for we understand better than most, that to err is human. But we will not forget.
The Malays will accept that within others, greed and arrogance prevail in abundance....maybe more than many of us can endure... but the Malays, have the extraordinary capacity to absorb all this and emerge stronger because it is the nature of our innate spiritual constitution and DNA, to do so.
But if you think that the Malays will continue to endure for any more time than is necessary, of further being trampled, used, abused, and then cast aside by any other Malay leaders...then I tell you that you are mistaken!
To those Malay who has been responsible for destroying the very fabric of the once dignified and decent Malay ....we know who you are!
We hold you accountable for what you have done to us.
Do not forget that those who have been responsible for the arrest, prosecution, and sentencing of Najib Razak, have been mostly Malays. And there can be no greater example of a Malay leader who has trampled, used, abused, and then cast aside the Malays for his own benefit, than Najib Tun Razak. His wife Rosmah Mansor has been arrested and convicted. She awaits incarceration.
These two should be reason enough for others of their genre to understand that the Malays will rise from the depths they have been consigned to by many decades of political abuse. Corrupt Malay politicians and corrupt Malays anywhere should no longer think themselves safe anywhere they are and whoever they are. They will be punished. The political will to do so now exists, and the Malays have said that enough is enough.
But what of the others in Malaysia? Have Malaysians had enough of corrupt politicians?
Have Malaysians had enough of corrupt Malaysians?
Or are these Malaysian content to continue being trampled, used, abused, and cast aside by these corrupt politicians and corrupt Malaysians?
We need to ask ourselves these questions because our nation and our people have long lost our moral compass and our sense of what is right and what is wrong. Many of our leaders, too, have lost their moral compass and their sense of what is right and what is wrong.
Together we are rapidly sinking into a quagmire of self-doubts and a lack of conviction in our ability to reset, reboot, and repair what damage has already been done to ourselves, our community, and our nation.
And many of us still ask if DSAI as PMX can make a difference.
I have no answer to that question but, you must understand that in the things that we now do, we can all, with DSAI as PMX, make that difference.
Let us at least try!
