What I write now will not make a difference to the outcome of PRU15. It is now entirely in the hands of the voters who have been cajoled, persuaded, bribed and some, I know, would have decided to cast their votes for those whom they think will do what is right for Malaysia and Malaysians. Some will vote for PH. Some are for BN and then there are others who will cast their votes as they think fit. What race, religion, state you come from, and even your gender may, decide how you will vote. By midnight Saturday, the losers will balek kampong. The winners will begin the task of putting together a coalition of the willing, to do government in Putrajaya.
As we have seen in the past...those nearest and dearest to the new prime minister, to the Cabinet Ministers, and anyone else remotely connected to anyone in the new political hierarchy will begin to flex their "I know so-and-so" muscles and, soon, take residence in the corridors of power. Whatever lah...we have seen it all, but, even having seen it all does not make me numb to this obnoxious ritual we see after every change of prime ministers....every change in Ministers and every change in the little Napoleon's further down the line of power. Thank god I am 6000kms away in Melbourne - away from the maddening crowd.
What now?
We voted for PH in PRU14, and then we deliriously celebrated our victory against the corrupt BN, against the BN of 1MDB. The same BN that now has its Chairman in jail in Kajang. The BN of cash is king and also the BN that took power back for themselves as the PH we voted into office crumbled in the face of power, lots of cash and vested interests.
Let history sort out the truth of what really happened between PRU14 and PRU15, but this much I know. Those to whom we have given our trust to lead us, abused that trust. Every fucking one of them, from Mr. King down, abused that trust. And they abused that trust because we were not vigilant enough in ensuring that the government we put in place after PRU14 was of the people, by the people, and for the people. These are lesson learned the hard way for all of us. Let us promise ourselves that it will never happen again. Let us always remind these politicians that it was our votes that put them into government, and it will also be our votes that will take them out of government should they fail us.
These are my thoughts at 3.45 am on a Saturday morning...the day that polling starts for PRU15.
Already I see another DSAI emerging. He has met with the heads of the foreign missions in KL.
He gave a very 'presidential' address to prepare us all for an incoming PH government.
All is in readiness for the coming of DSAI.
BUT... I am not swayed by such theatrics. Let us all not be swayed by such theatrics. Let us keep a vigilant and responsible watch over DSAI and anyone else that seeks to lead our nation. Surely we have learned our lessons from the past? The lessons of prime ministers who lose their way in the corridors of power? The lessons of Langkah Sheraton? The abuse of powers by Mr. King. And there are many other lessons that we must have learned from that simple refrain, "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely".
Enough said.
👏👏 Well said, En HAH! We need to stop idolising the ‘leaders’ and keep them on their toes, lest they go the BN way!!
I recommend you to listen to Rafizi's last ceramah.
