Listening to the rhetoric coming from PH in the lead-up to polling day, many of us believed that we were already in the new dawn after the dark days of corruption, money, and vulture politics. Surely, we thought, when we triumph over BN, with DSAI as our leader, we will leave the debilitating politics of race, religion, and vested interests behind us, and sail forth together towards the future we have all dreamt about - ONE MALAYSIA FOR EVERYBODY THAT CALLS MALAYSIA HOME!
As night came and the results started to come in, we saw that PH was leading. We begin to dream of the future to come, under PH. Good governance. No corruption. Transparency. Truth. Moral courage. And all this has already been affirmed by PH leaders as being their commitment to us. They will do what is right and true, for the rakyat. At all times the rakyat, the rakyat, and the rakyat - so they tell us!
It was as if we already had in Putrajaya men and women of honor, with the moral courage and integrity to do government and lead us all into the dawn of good governance with meritocracy and truth as its guiding light.
I remember the Chinese proverb "Not the cry, but the flight of a wild duck, leads the flock to fly and follow" and Malaysians everywhere told themselves, let DSAI lead, and we will follow.
With every election commitment that came from Pakatan Harapan we gain strength, courage, and confidence to dare think that we can once again be what we once were... Malaysians with grace, respect, and reverence for each other who want to live together and call Malaysia home.
Now in the flush of victory, even before we have had time to savior the electoral victory, there is already argument, debate, and doubt that maybe, our leaders have failed us.
That our leaders are cowards. That our leaders are not men and women of honor, and that they lack the moral courage to do what is right. Do we want these same men and women to rule over us? Are they good enough to be our leaders?
Already, promises made by PH leaders that they will not work with penyamuns are being broken. Promises were made that there will be no jobs for the boys...no appointment made to Cabinet as a reward for support or favors done to make PH the government of the day and DSAI, the Prime Minister....are being cast aside.
We have seen electoral losers at PRU 15 become winners in this PH-led government. Promises made, not in the heat of the campaign, but made in PH electoral manifesto, made after much thought and, I am sure, with an earnest commitment to us all, now lay in tatters as PH leaders tell us that they must compromise and meet the demands of coalition partners if PH is to do government - the Unity Government that the Royals want in place.
And most worrying of all, are those in Cabinet appointed on merit? Or is meritocracy a dirty word for this PH-led Unity government?
They say one week is a long time in politics. For us all, these last few days have been a long time in fulfilling PH electoral promises and short in bringing into Cabinet people, we think, should not be in Cabinet!
Now, if this is where we are one week into a PH unity government, how will it be a few months down the road?
How will DSAI deliver on his promise for a government of the people, by the people, and for the people?
I cannot tell DSAI what he must do to succeed in what he has been tasked to do - to form a unity government - but I can tell DSAI how he will fail. He will fail if he tries to please everybody.
Anwar, you must have humility, clarity, and courage. From your past and by your deeds, you already have shown us that you have humility and clarity, in the things that you do. You must now find the courage to do what you promised us you will do. The courage to do what you must do. The moral courage to be the prime minister for every Malaysian, as you have promised to do.
There is still time to do this, and we expect you to do this. Anything less will lead us to question your right to govern over us, and over our beloved nation, Malaysia. Enough said.
Can Anwar control his cabinet.? Already in the news, there’s one absentee in the first cabinet meeting…
I think he need to pass through 19.12 first.... let's wait...☕☕
The king decide who gets to be pm. If tsmy had agreed to work with ph,anwar wouldnt have to work with zahid. It wasnt anwars intent to trade principles over power.
Never trust a politician….. there’s always some lie in there to win one’s vote.
